Join me in my adventures while working as an intern counselor at a behavioral health center!

I promise this will be way more exciting than it initially sounds. The main purpose of my blog/website is to highlight treatment interventions, interesting experiences working with a variety of populations, and address important issues I see regarding mental health. Also, you all get to bear witness to my successes and mishaps as a graduate level mental health intern counselor. You don't want to miss this.

The behavioral health center is a crisis stabilization unit, meaning we treat individuals through short term inpatient treatment. The majority of patients admitted were Baker Acted for a potential variety of reasons, including drug overdose, severe depression, suicide attempts, unstable mood, hallucinations, or any sort of debilitating mental health issue or stressor. The main purpose of treatment at the BHC is to bring individuals back to their baseline of functioning and then refer them to appropriate long term treatment.

What do I personally do at work, you ask? I conduct biopyschosocial assessments, create treatment plans, case management tasks, lead counseling groups, and do individual crisis counseling.

Working at a hospital is unpredictable and NEVER boring. Which is why I adore it. I suppose my blog doesn't necessarily have one specific topic, because I work with adults, adolescents, severe mental health issues, substance abuse, and utilize different counseling strategies and treatment interventions. So let's talk about it all! My goal in creating this webpage is to shed light on issues that are often unspoken and are attached to deep levels of stigma regarding mental health in this country. Mental health is important, real, and deserves to be talked about in an open forum.

Oh, and just to let you know...I have a tendency to be a little sarcastic in my blog entries and use a lot of memes so prepare yourself.

By the way, here is a link to an audio/prezi presentation I created about building rapport with adolescent clients. Enjoy!
